Exhibition venues from Düsseldorf, Cologne and Bonn will showcase collaborations between artists, designers and labels from the Rhineland art and fashion scene throughout the Düsseldorf city area. The festival centre is the Museum K21 of the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen with presentations from both fields as well as accompanying talks on the topics of sustainability, fair fashion and entrepreneurship.
PERFORMANCE by GILI AVISSAR at Philara Collection
Gili Avissar combines painting, sculpture, video, performance and dance in his work. Originally, the artist wanted to study fashion, but found more freedom in art. In 2021, he was featured in the exhibition "Look! Revelations on Art and Fashion" at Marta Herford. His work focuses on textile structures and fantastic creatures that move between people, animals and plants and emphasise transformation processes. He often uses his body as a canvas and produces works that are also costumes for videos and performances. For the Philara and Strike a Pose collection, Gili Avissar will premiere a performance with a wolf costume and other textile entities.
Gili Avissar (*1980 in Haifa, lives and works in Tel Aviv) studied at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem, the Glasgow School of Art and the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Tel Aviv. In recent years, scholarship stays have taken him to Düsseldorf, Leipzig, Paris and Prague, among other places. Avissar's works have been shown internationally in solo exhibitions, including MEWO Kunsthalle, Memmingen, Germany (2018), Kostka Galerie, Prague (2018), Koal Galerie, Berlin (2017), Nahum Gutman Museum, Tel Aviv (2015). He has also been included in group exhibitions and screenings, including at Marta Herford (2021/2022), Artist's Television Access, San Francisco (2018), Mana Contemporary, Chicago (2017), KARST contemporary art venue, Plymouth, Flux Factory, New York (2015), Eretz Israel Museum, Tel Aviv (2014), Museum für Bildhauerei Glaskasten Marl (2013) and KIT, Düsseldorf (2012).
The event begins at 7 pm and lasts approximately 50 minutes. The event is fully accessible and free of charge.
COOPERATION by THOMAS SCHEIBITZ and SUZUSAN
Thomas Scheibitz' (*1968 in Radeberg, lives and works in Berlin) artistic practice is based on a multi-layered collection of archival material: including art historical reproductions, typography, images from magazines, architectural photographs, cartoons, notes, sketches, conceptual clusters and much more. At the centre of the Berlin-based artist's work is the search for a visual grammar of the present and a new relationship between representationalism and abstraction. For the Philara collection and Strike a Pose, the artist will create a motif for the fashion of Hiroyuki Murase and his label Suzusan.
Thomas Scheibitz studied at the HfbK Dresden, as a master student of Ralf Kerbach. He has been a professor at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf since 2018. At the 51st International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale (2005), the German pavilion showed works by Thomas Scheibitz together with Tino Sehgal. Important solo exhibitions of his work have taken place at the ICA, London (1999), Kunstmuseum Winterthur (2001), Camden Arts Centre, London (2008), Musée d' Art Moderne Grand-Duc Jean, Luxembourg (2008), Taxispalais, Innsbruck (2010), Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt am Main (2012), Kunstmuseum Bonn (2018), KINDL-Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst, Berlin (2018) and Museum Berggruen, Berlin (2019), among others.
SUZUSAN was founded by Hiroyuki Murase in 2008. The label's fashion is based on an ancient Japanese textile finishing technique called shibori, used for manually dyeing fabric by twisting and wringing it. The designer combines this special tradition of his hometown Arimatsu with new materials, such as hand-woven cashmere and alpaca wool as well as transparent fabrics for scarves and his prêt-à-porter collection.
